What is a Blog?

A Blog is ideally a webpage that may either be published by an individual or a group of individuals. During the good old days, a blog or a weblog is almost similar to a website in every respect. It used to the online version of the diary or journal.

The initial term used for the purpose was weblog meaning the logs managed on the web. It was later contracted to Weblog and later to Blog. The person who used to blog was referred to as a Blogger. There can either be a private blog or a public blog. However, most of the time, the blogs are designed to be public.

Some of the definitions in connection with the blog and blogging can be helpful here. We would learn a few glossary terms for a better understanding.

Blog – An online diary or journal that is available for public consumption over the internet.

Blogger – The individual who manages the blogs. Ideally, the blog owner. The person in charge of managing the blog by posting the updates, sharing the news, information and case studies.

Blog Post – The content inside a blog. Generally referred to as an article or post.

Blogging – The procedure of managing and maintaining the blog. Sharing the information on the blog through the blog posts.

A Blog is normally updated at regular intervals. They are written on a particular topic and can be based on a wide range of genres. But when they do, they would be focussed on a particular category and genre and offer updated information on a regular basis.

Blogs are used for a wide range of purposes. When you launch a blog, you can have several reasons that underline the importance of blogging and the advantages thereof. A few reasons you would be blogging for can be summed up as

  • To express or put forward your views on a particular topic or subject.
  • Provide information and knowledge on a particular topic as in the case of news portals.
  • Making money. In fact, this is the basic reason why most of us launch a blog.
  • Promotion of your business, brand or product.

This is an excellent feature that makes a blog one of the best options for sharing your information. The blog can hold hundreds of pages, unlike the websites. You can check the past history of the blog and check the content that was posted even a year ago.

This is yet another factor that is quite unique to a blog and ensures a positive interaction between a user and the blog owner. This would make a blog more of a conversation that just being a monologue entry. They will also help you develop a positive with your audience.

What Makes a Blog So popular?

Well, why is blogging that much popular and what makes it become such an interesting option? There are several reasons it has assumed mainstream importance.

Some factors that make it a popular option would include

  • It becomes one of the major sources of getting more information about any topic of your interest.
  • The companies make use of blogging a part of their websites for enhancing the functionality. They also use it for sharing valuable information about their products and services.
  • Users would be able to interact with your brand. This will help you educate your visitors with the features of your products and services in a positive manner.
  • It has been considered to be one of the excellent options for making money online. In fact, it offers you several options in terms of earning opportunities. You can opt for affiliate marketing, Google Adsense, and several other options.
