Awareness – Definition, Meaning and Examples

Awareness is a state of mind where one has the consciousness of a particular situation or thing. It can also be understood as the ability to perceive or know something. Hence, when companies or brands try to raise awareness around their products or services, they try to inform and educate the target audience about them.

According to the Cambridge dictionary, the meaning of noun awareness is

The knowledge that something exists, or understanding of a situation or subject at the present time based on information or experience.

Definition of Awareness

Definition: Awareness is defined as the state of having a proper understanding of the subject or situation. For example, your awareness about yourself would revolve around being aware of different aspects of your emotional quotients, behavioral inclinations, feelings, personality traits, etc via introspection and reflection.

Awareness can be heightened by simply knowing what is going on in one’s surroundings. It helps one to perceive the information on their surroundings and then to channel their thoughts concerning it.

Concept of Brand Awareness

Brand awareness is a marketing term associated with defining the degree of consumer recognition of the company’s goods or services. Awareness of a brand is a crucial step for the long-term success of a company.

When a consumer buys a product and is satisfied with it, consumers will likely browse through more selection of products or services sold by the same brand. Nowadays, word of mouth and testimonies are regarded as essential factors in consideration for purchasing goods or products.  These play an essential role in creating brand awareness.

The main objective of brand awareness is for people to be conscious and well-informed of the advertised goods or services of a brand. Products and services that sustain a high level of brand awareness are expected to generate more sales than their competition.

How to Raise Awareness of a brand?

With the help of technologies, creating brand awareness has become a lot easier than before. Although, the traditional way of advertising and promoting a brand is still in practice.

Nowadays, the use of social media plays an important role in creating brand awareness. Even before launching a product, companies often start their advertisement and promotion campaigns, which ensures they stay ahead of the competition.

Companies create brand awareness through the means of;

  • Billboard, posters, and pamphlets
  • Creating custom hashtags for several social media platform
  • Posting regularly on the social media platform
  • Approaching independent influencers to promote the products and services
  • Sponsoring local events
  • Run ads through the means of advertising network
  • Distribution of sample products

What is Self-Awareness?

Self-awareness is the ability to see oneself in different aspects objectively and subjectively. It is much more than being conscious of one’s disposition and emotion. It is not something that an individual is always focused on at every moment of their life. Instead, self-awareness is said to emerge at different points depending on the circumstances and one’s personality.

How to Increase Self-Awareness

Practice Mindfulness

There are various ways to increase or cultivate self-awareness in oneself. Some of them are discussed below

1. Practice Mindfulness

Mindfulness is a type of meditation where one is focused on one’s inner state of mind. It requires paying attention to one’s thoughts, emotions, and surroundings. It channels one to be aware of one’s own internal state and the response to those things.

2. Journalizing or Writing

Writing down one’s thoughts is a common practice to be self-aware of certain things. Often when one writes down their thoughts or about their day, it helps them come to terms with their thoughts and feelings. And reading those writing will help to find value and what one wants.

Writing doesn’t confine in narrating the events in points or summary or word of the day; it can also take short stories or poems. All such practices help one to be aware of one’s own emotions and help to become more self-aware.

3. Make Time for Introspection

Once a day, make time for introspecting. There are multiple ways to reflect on one’s mental state. The important thing about introspection to be aware of one’s own thoughts and emotions.
