YouTube Music adds podcasts in the US

April 28, 2023 By Hitesh Bhasin Filed Under: News

YouTube Music has added podcasts as a new feature, fulfilling their promise. Users in the US can access this feature by launching the Android or iOS app, even without a Premium or Music Premium subscription. You can stream audio or video podcasts and play them in the background. Additionally, you can cast them on other devices like speakers.

According to YouTube, the podcast section will become available to American users gradually, so it may take some time before you can see it. The format will also be available in other regions, but there is no timeline provided yet. Additionally, paying members will still need to listen to host-read ads.

Although Google already has a Podcasts app, the addition may seem peculiar. However, this new feature unifies listening for YouTube Music subscribers. Moreover, theoretically, it attracts users to sign up for YouTube Music. If you pay for on-demand music and want everything in one place, this could make the app a more desirable alternative to Spotify.

YouTube Music won’t have Original Podcasts as Spotify does

YouTube has added a podcast feature to lure in more users and keep up with other streaming platforms, but it won’t be creating its own original podcasts like Spotify. This move allows YouTube to expand its offerings and provide a comprehensive audio solution for users.

Spotify and YouTube Music are among the leading music streaming platforms worldwide. They strive to attract and retain users by competing against each other. Although Spotify is primarily a music platform, it has been broadening its portfolio. It now offers various audio content such as podcasts and audiobooks.

Meanwhile, YouTube Music has been increasing its focus on podcasts. While each platform has its own special features, they are fiercely competitive with each other. This competition is advantageous for customers, as both platforms keep improving and introducing new ideas.

With the addition of podcasts, YouTube Music is a more attractive option for music fans and podcast listeners alike. It will be interesting to observe the changes and updates that come up in the future as both platforms compete with each other.
