Tata Mega Pixel – the future of automobile market

Ratan Naval Tata, Chairman of Tata Sons has one more feather on his cap before his retirement on December, 2012. He has been the driving motivational force behind the whole of Tata group which is comprised of 100 firms and having a net worth of more than 100 Billion USD. Many people have questioned him about his personal life and the reason for not getting married? He has given a straight forward answer “When you asked whether I’d ever been in love, I came seriously close to getting married four times and each time it got close to there and I guess I backed off in fear of one reason or another”. But this is not true, Rattan Tata is truly married to Tata group and his commitment to his job made Tata group to transform into a global brand from an Indian brand.

Ratan Tata has created history in bringing India’s owned steel plant, power station, luxury hotel, airlines, and world’s cheapest car; now one more on the row is Tata Mega Pixel. Tata Motors have seen a tremendous growth in terms of value and volume in the last decade. Tata’s new ‘Talk of the Town’ is Tata Mega Pixel which was showcased in 82nd Geneva Motor Show, 2012. The need for fuel conservation and the Global warming alarm has already becoming imperative across the globe, Tata Mega Pixel which is launched recently has proved to be most fuel efficient and eco friendly electric car with a mileage of 100kms from a litre of fuel (converted in Battery power).

The vehicle can travel a distance of 900 kms with a single tank of fuel, i.e. fully charged vehicle. The car is made up of phosphate battery and a petrol engine generator which enable recharging while the vehicle is on the move. The vehicle has four electric motors and a lithium ion battery pack, which is dedicated to each wheel and backed up by small 325 CC on-board petrol engine generator. The vehicle has a turning radius 2.8 meters which is extremely amazing for a small city car. The car has four side sliding doors which enable easy entry and exit into the vehicle.

The car has provisions of Human Machine Interface and a console docking point to connect smart phone and common touch screen interface controlling the various functions of the car in the dashboard. The car’s speed, performance, driving mode, temperature can be controlled by a single console device with a single touch similar to high end cars. The car is a perfect blend of both Indian and global style in design, color, technology and interiors. The car’s Co2 emission is just 22 gm/km which proves its superior technology and a conscious effort in keeping the world ‘Clean and Green’.

Mega Pixel is a concept car which will take three to four years to be launched in the market. It is targeted for the international market and majorly concentrated on UK market as to expand its export segment realizing the huge potential of the market. The car’s dimension is similar to that of a Wagon R, Hyundai’s i10. The superior and stylish global design indicates the future of Tata Motors in the global market. The other future endeavors of Tata Motors in electric motor segment include Indica Vista EV ( electric vehicle), Tata Ace Electric Vehicle and Electric Nano.

General Motors came up with a similar car Chevy volt and has decided to suspend the production temporarily due to the low demand. Keeping this in mind and from the lessons learnt from Nano, which did not create the expected impact in the Indian market, Automobile Enthusiasts feel Tata Motors has to be more careful in positioning the vehicle in Global space before rolling out in the market. Tata Motors which was once importing technology know-how in automobile sector has transformed into technology leader, which makes us feel proud of Ratan Tata for projecting India again on a global platform after the Nano!
