Although Petrol and diesel are important commodities, our government has constantly ignored the most important commodity of all – Water. For people living in the Urban area, water might not be a problem. But it definitely becomes a problem as you move away from cities. Water has to be taken out of wells, distributed through tankers and most of the times you have to use it in a scarce manner.
But, one of the major consumption of water happens in Industrial areas as well. So its good to see someone step forward and take an initiative, even though it may be for corporate reasons. Hindustan Unilever is launching the “India water body’.
The India water body will initially conduct a nationwide survey so as to determine the gap between demand and supply of water. Hindustan Unilever in conjunction with “India Water body” will launch products which have lesser water consumption and we can see new varieties of Surf excel and other HUL products. I am also sure that “India water body” will definitely approach other companies in a public relations exercise. After all it has the HUL brand name behind it.
“Over time, our R&D will try to make products that conserve water if we have to achieve the 2020 goal,” said Nitin Paranjpe, CEO, HUL . “We will try and pull the might of many people within government as well as private organizations for water conservation .” HUL has already initiated projects to save 50 billion liters of water by 2015!!! I hope the government too steps forward and starts thinking of water as much as it thinks of petrol.
