Nokia loses its top position after 14 years to Samsung

This was bound to happen and it has. The one mistake of Nokia – not tying up with Android and not bringing forward really high tech mobile phones has hit the brand in its heart and opened up the avenue for another super player – Samsung.

Nokia has been the market leader for the last 14 years with value for money products, products which were really good and had the latest technology. The best part was the rural spread of Nokia which is now being challenged by Samsung Guru range of phones which have a fantastic battery life. The grass was green for Nokia until the first Iphone launched. Than the grass began wilting. [Read more...]

Why Nokia lost its market share

Nokia has been long the market leader in the mobile phone market and with its enormous reach and huge customer base, had successfully created significant entry barriers for any new player as such. Its symbian OS being the backbone of the whole success story contributed to a great deal in its higher perceived ease of use. Customers used to enjoy the features, thanks to highly simplified GUI. It ruled the middle and low end market for long.

But, Nokia did a blunder by being very much myopic and complacent about its achievements and didn’t envision the competition, radical innovations and high end technology coming its way, which certainly had potential to dethrone it of its place.

Nokia Ovi to be shelved off. Nokia Services to be launched

Nokia, announced in its bold move that its Ovi services would no longer be associated with it. Ovi services, Nokia’s answer to Apple’s Apple App store made a grand debut in August 2007 with offers of services such as maps, email, apps and music services.

However the OVI brand might be rebranded as Nokia services by July this year. Nokia’s falling market share is a great concern for the Finnish handset maker which dominated the market but has been losing its sheen to local handset makers.
