Pizza hut adds Beer and wine to menu

In a surprise move (especially considering the Indian culture) Pizza hut has added Beer and wine to their Menu. They will start selling Beer and Wine in their outlets across India and will begin from Tier A cities and move onto Tier 2 and Tier 3 cities.

Pizza hut has already tried the concept in Delhi and Bangalore. Beer was tested in 2 outlets of Delhi and Wine in 5 outlets of Bangalore. Slowly but surely more and more outlets will be added with these beverages and a plan to establish this offering has been made for across India by 2015.

Hero Cycles joins hand with Pantaloon retail to cell Bicycles

Pantaloons Retail India Limited (PRIL) and Hero cycles have come together to promote the premium segment of Hero bicycles in India. PRIL’s “Planet Sports” will be the major promoter of Hero cycles.

The tie up has been done mainly for the high end bicycles which are being launched in India by Hero Cycles. These high end bicycles will be sold in Planet sports as well as other shop in shop format including Future groups Pantaloons, Brand Factory and Sports warehouses.

WalMart to re open 12 stores in Quake hit Japan

Japan has had its share of Bad luck. But one good news which comes out is that some of the quake hit areas will have Wal-mart stores opening nearby. Wal-mart had a total of 24 stores in Japan. It is opening 12 of these stores and soon plans to re start all 24.

As a part of CSR activity, Some of Wal-Mart stores had started working within hours of the disaster. These stores were offering bottled water and items such as Noodles and instant food.

Development Licencee model by McDonalds and HRPL to see rise in McDonalds outlets

HRPL – Hardcastle Restaurants private ltd, which runs Mcdonalds outlets in West and South india is planning on doubling the total number of Mcdonalds outlets in the next 3 years. It might have ti invest around 500 crore rupees to do the same.

The company has undergone a development licencee model in association with McDonalds. The Development Licencee model has been applied for 50 companies by McDonalds. Under this model, a licencee owns an entire business including real estate and uses its local knowledge as well as capital to build a brand and develop the market thereby optimizing profitability for the brand in the long term.

Coca Cola and ISB to start a Retail Academy

Good news for upcoming managers in the retail segment. The ISB (Indian school of business), One of the premium B schools of India has signed an MOU with Coca Cola to start a retail academy in the campus of ISB which is in Hyderabad.

With the rise in the retail sector, it is evident that the education sector would be looking towards it as a potential avenue. Although there are other retail courses available, they will not come as big as this. With two of the top brand names (in FMCG and Education sector respectively) tying hands with each other, you are bound to get the best results.

Starbucks expands – Joins hands with Tata

Starbucks – A leading coffee brand internationally was looking to expand its brand globally and has changed its logo to give it a fresher and more global look. Starbucks wanted to start other products besides coffee.

Amazingly Starbucks has entered India by signing a Memorandum of association with Tata. Tata and Starbucks will now collaborate for sourcing and distributing coffee through retail outlets throughout India.
