Kingfisher airlines, an Indian based airline group which is owned by Mr. Vijay Mallaya, who is always been associated with luxury, extravagant lifestyle and vibrancy. The parent company, United breweries Group is third largest sprit company in the world. He is also known for owning one of the world’s most expensive yachts and a cricket, Formula One team and IPL Royal challengers team. A general perception prevails among stakeholders, such that ‘Luxury’ and ‘Vijay Mallya’ are always associated with each other.

Air India eyes regional routes for expansion

On the eve of the inauguration of the new Delhi-Kanpur-Kolkata route, Air India (AI) announced its focus on exploring newer regional routes to cash in on the opportunity where no major competition is present. The ailing Maharaja which is heavily laden by a huge debt and a string of losses is betting smaller cities in the Tier II and III regions to improve its market share and revenues.

Air India gets bankers support for its turnaround

Air India recently announced its plans to have a turnaround from its negative position to a positive position within 4 years. This announcement is strongly being backed by the supporters of Air India who have indicated that they will help Air India in repaying its 40,000 crore debt.

Air India has plans to increase revenues by 5000 crores and lessen costs by 4000 crores per annum which will bring it to a profitable position within 4 years. Out of the 40,000 crore loan, 18,000 is towards working capital and 22,000 is towards new aircrafts bought.

Jet fuel prices go up by 2%, might affect airfares

The Aviation turbine fuel (ATF) cost have further increased by 2%. As a result 2 top airliners, Jet Airways and Kingfisher airlines are hinting at an increase in Airfare prices.

Airfares and pricing in case of airlines is decided by the corporation itself and the government seldom intervenes unless the hike is unwanted. As the ATF has increased in price by governments decision itself, airlines might not be left with much of an option but to increase prices to match topline with bottomline.

Although both the customers and the government is happy with the recent price cuts, the airlines themselves are not happy with it. And one person to oppose it has been the King of good times Mr Vijay mallya itself.

Mallya feels airfare is a matter of demand and supply and hence there should not be any regulations applied to it whether it is upper or lower band. According to him, the airlines are not exploiting the customers but are instead fighting for market share and hence demand and supply has to be respected.
