Why Nokia lost its market share

Nokia has been long the market leader in the mobile phone market and with its enormous reach and huge customer base, had successfully created significant entry barriers for any new player as such. Its symbian OS being the backbone of the whole success story contributed to a great deal in its higher perceived ease of use. Customers used to enjoy the features, thanks to highly simplified GUI. It ruled the middle and low end market for long.

The initial partnership in 2009 between United Breweries (UB) and Heineken was mainly for the distribution of Heineken beer. The manufacturing had been started only for 3 major metros like Mumbai, Delhi and Bangalore.

However, UB has now taken a step forward and is planning to increase the market share of Heineken across India. Heineken falls under premium beer and it is to be manufactured at the Taloja plant of UB.

TRAI finally implements Do not call registry – Heavy fines if rules broken

What has been decided 4 times over is finally going to be implemented by TRAI. TRAI has decided to bring an end to the undesired telemarketer calls and SMSes. Several experts are of the opinion that this should have been done the first time itself as consumers have had to go through a lot of hassle especially when companies got so bold as to call customers during night time.

The new registry is known as “National customer preference registry” which was previously the “Do not call” registry. Customers who are registered with the latter will not get undesired calls from telemarketers. Telemarketers who break the rule will have to pay 75000 rs for the first offence and upto 2.5 lakhs for the sixth offence.

Pizza hut adds Beer and wine to menu

In a surprise move (especially considering the Indian culture) Pizza hut has added Beer and wine to their Menu. They will start selling Beer and Wine in their outlets across India and will begin from Tier A cities and move onto Tier 2 and Tier 3 cities.

Pizza hut has already tried the concept in Delhi and Bangalore. Beer was tested in 2 outlets of Delhi and Wine in 5 outlets of Bangalore. Slowly but surely more and more outlets will be added with these beverages and a plan to establish this offering has been made for across India by 2015.
